Beyond the Gulf of America

On January 20, United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and switching back Mount Denali to Mount McKinley.

Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness

Named “Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness”, Politico informs that some companies, such as Google Maps, have followed the White House executive order. However, it seems that this is only the beginning.

Bragg to Liberty to Bragg

Trump has also insisted on changing the name of the Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg, as the Army base was known from 1918 to 2022.

Honoring the losers of the Civil War

Originally named after Confederate general Braxton Bragg. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has also referred to the military base by its former name.

Monuments to Trump's first Administration

According to Politico, Trump is seeking to alter the names of geographic and cultural landmarks to better suit his political views and cultural references. Even more surprising, there are some streets and highways that have been named after Trump himself.

The Donald J. Trump Highway

Oklahoma governor Kevin Stitt signed a legislation in 2021 naming a stretch of highway after the 45th President of the United States.

The exception

Local newspaper The Oklahoman wrote that, although state laws establish that someone must have passed away to have a landmark named after them, conservatives lawmakers made an exception.

Trump-style Justice

Lyon County, in rural Nevada, renamed in 2022 its justice complex after Trump. Politico highlights that many people considered ironic that the complex –made up of two courts, the sheriff’s office, and a jail– would be named after the first convicted President of the United States.

Trump, the Florida man

The Miami Herald reported back in 2023 that the city council of Hialeah, Florida, unanimously voted to rename Palm Avenue as President Donald J. Trump Avenue. The city, where 75% of the residents have Cuban roots, is a Hispanic Republican stronghold.

More Trump than ever

Political news website The Hill writes that, instead of winding down, many Republican politicians are currently trying to rename some landmarks after Donald Trump as quick as possible.

Welcome to Trumplandia

Politico reveals that state lawmakers in Arizona, Missouri, Kentucky, and Wyoming are some places that have introduced legislation to designate some roadways as “The Donald J. Trump Highway”.

If the Gulf of America wasn't enough...

Republican Florida Representative Greg Steube introduced a measure in 2024 to designate the US exclusive economic zone, which is made up of the entirety of the country’s coastline, as “The Donald J. Trump Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States”.

THE DJT International Airport

The Hill writes that a group of Republican representatives have proposed to rename Washington D.C.’s Dulles International Airport into the Donald J. Trump International Airport.

America's golden age?

“We have entered the golden age of America largely thanks to President Trump’s leadership”, reads the statement written by North Carolina Representative Addison McDowell, who introduced the bill.

Reagan and Trump

“It is only right that the two airports servicing our nation’s capital are duly honored and respected by two of the best presidents to have the honor of serving our great nation”, McDowell declared. The other Washington D.C. airfield is the Ronald Reagan National Airport.

Donald Trump, the fearless leader?

Another Republican Representative supporting the bill, Pennsylvania’s Guy Reschenthaler was quoted by The Hill describing it in the following terms: “it will cement Trump’s status in our nation’s capital as our fearless commander-in-chief, extraordinary leader, and relentless champion for the American people”.
