The Supreme Court ruling on Trump could ruin the GOP's wishes for revenge

The United States Supreme Court surprisingly granted legal immunity to US presidents for their actions while reviewing former President Trump's participation in the January 6 insurrection.

The ruling provided a way out for Trump, who currently faces several trials over the assault on the Capitol and other issues, like the hush payments he made to Stormy Daniels.

Still, the ruling has other and more lasting consequences as it will affect not only Trump, who could only serve one more term but all future presidents of the United States.

A dissenting opinion from liberal-leaning Supreme Justice Sotomayor claimed that the POTUS will now have king-like powers over the country, and experts said she was not exactly wrong.

The problem is that when a person holds those positions, the lines between presidential and personal actions can be blurry, and wrongdoings could be very hard to prosecute.

For example, the "retribution" calls of Republican leaders and lawmakers to prosecute President Biden if Trump wins the next elections now could be impossible.

They were difficult before the ruling, as the failing impeachment attempts of House Republicans showed. Still, voices like Marco Rubio or Stephen Bannon called to fight fire with fire.

According to MSNBC, Even Trump said he would appoint a "real special prosecutor" to go after President Biden for being "the most corrupt President in the history of the United States of America."

The main argument behind the corruption claims is the same one behind House Republicans' attempt to impeach Biden: they say he benefited financially from Hunter Biden's foreign business deals.

However, the chances of prosecuting Biden (with or without evidence) are now too slim, even if the case concerns his private fortune. In an obvious parallelism, the sentencing of Trump's hush money case involving his private business records was delayed.

The Supreme Court decision has given Trump a free card, allowing him to shake off his trials before the election. Still, it gave the same card to all other presidents, including Biden.

Even if Republicans chose to prosecute him on issues with severe consequences for the country, like the border crisis, the Supreme Court precedent now protects him from that.
