Biden brutally roasted Trump at the annual correspondents' dinner

Donald Trump was the butt of several jokes at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner but it was Joe Biden’s grilling that caught the attention of political analysts. Biden didn’t hold back when talking about the former president. 

Biden kicked off his little speech by thanking everyone who came but asked them to not be so loud because Trump was listening before joking saying “Sleepy Don. I kind of like that. I might use it again.” It was a quick and funny jab. 

However, Biden’s Sleep Don comment was the least vicious attack the President fired at his 2024 opponent. Biben joked that age was an issue in the campaign and then said he was “a grown man running against a six-year-old.”

The comment earned Biden laughter and applause but his next remarks sent the crowd into overdrive when he casually brought up the former president’s disastrous comments regarding the Battle of Gettysburg being beautiful.

“Did you hear what Donald just said about the major Civil War battle?” Biden questioned the crowd. “Quote, ‘Gettysburg. Wow.’ Trump’s speech was so embarrassing, the statue of Robert E. Lee surrendered again.” But Biden didn’t stop there. 

The President quickly transitioned into more comments about age, saying that it was the only thing he and Trump had in common since his Vice President actually endorsed him for president. The quick comment earned Biden more laughter. 

Biden went on to make a very funny illusion to Trump’s legal issues when he said: “I’ve had a great stretch since the State of the Union. But Donald has had a few tough days lately. You might call it stormy weather,” a reference to Trump’s Stormy Daniels troubles. 

The former president is currently embroiled in a criminal trial in which Trump is facing 34 counts related to hush money payments he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels over their alleged affair ahead of the 2016 election according to NPR.  

However, any recent roasting of Trump wouldn’t be complete without the mention of his recent attempt to sell an America-branded Bible and Biden went for the jugular when he referenced the former president’s religious-themed money-making scheme. 

“Trump is so desperate, he started reading those bibles he’s selling. Then he got to the First Commandment, ‘You shall have no other Gods before me.’ That’s when he put it down and said, ‘This book is not for me,’” Biden said to the laughing crowd. 

Biden then turned his attention to Lauren Boebert, Fox News, and took a few swipes at himself before praising Saturday Night Live and thanking the free press for the job that they do, saying that they often risked their lives. Biden then turned back on Trump.

“The defeated former President has made no secret of his attack on our democracy.  He has said he wants to be a ‘dictator on day one,’ and so much more,” Biden explained in a more serious tone. “He tells supporters he is their ‘revenge’ and ‘retribution.’” 

“When in God’s name have you heard another president say something like that?  And he promised a ‘bloodbath’ when he loses again. We have to take this seriously. Eight years ago, you could have written it off as just Trump talk. But no longer. Not after January 6th.”

Biden went on to say that he was not asking the country’s press to take sides but rather he wanted them to rise to the seriousness of the moment. He asked the press to move past the “horse race numbers” and “gotcha distractions” to focus on what’s at stake. 

“Every single one of us has roles to play — a serious role to play in making sure democracy endures — American democracy.  I have my role, but, with all due respect, so do you,” Biden told the crowd of assembled reporters and journalists. 

“In the age of disinformation, credible information that people can trust is more important than ever.  And that makes you — and I mean this from the bottom of my heart — it makes you more important than ever,” Biden added.
