Donald Trump's secret passion

Next November, Donald Trump could one again become President of the United States. Nonetheless, residents at Mar-a-Lago claim that the New York mogul might have found his calling.

DJ T is in the house!

There are many things Donald J. Trump has been throughout his life: businessman, reality TV star, failed football team owner, US President, defendant. However, only a handful of people know that in the past few years, Trump has developed a love for being a disc jockey.

In case Mar-a-Lago wasn't good enough...

New York Magazine writes that, ever since he left the White House, Donald Trump has been regularly playing music for members of his clubs in Bedminster and Mar-a-Lago.

Been going on for a while now

Trump has apparently played his music set since at least February 2022, when Mar-a-Lago club members received a note advertising the former US President’s services as a disc-jockey, during Friday and Saturday evenings.

The greatest showman?

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, if you think about it. After all, if one thing you can’t deny about Donald Trump is that he’s a natural showman, who loves the spotlight.

Dance like nobody's watching

In several of his rallies, Donald Trump was even showed off some of his moves while swaying along with the music. The jury is still out if these move could be counted as dancing, though.

Less partying in Ibiza, more playing with an iPad

Before you imagine DJ T working the turntables while chugging unholy amounts of energy drinks in Ibiza, the former US President is described as selecting music from his Spotify playlist and blasting them around the country club on his iPad.

You can't say DJ without saying Donald J Trump

According to Axios, Bedminster and Mar-a-Lago regulars, who have enjoyed Trump’s music selection on the patio and the dining area stereo system, jokingly refer to him as DJ T, after his initials.

Trump doesn't change his tune

It’s no surprise that Trump apparently never changes his tune: It’s all golden oldies such as Elvis Presley, Lionel Richie, The Rolling Stones, Guns N’ Roses, James Brown, Elton John, The Village People, and a few show tunes from ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.

Something for the Gen X youth

Trump is also connected to the younger crowd, that is, anyone under 50! Axios describes that Sinéad O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares to U’ and a few hits by REM are also some of DJ T’s playlist favorites.

Pandering to the fanbase

However, The New York Times describes what is probably the most disturbing song in Trump’s repertoire: The US national anthem sung by inmates from the January 6th Capitol assault, spliced with samples of Donald Trump himself, reading the Pledge of Alliance.

Dinner and (political) theater

The former President apparently also peppers his disc-jockey gigs with comments you are likely to find in your regular Trump rally. It’s like a MAGA event every dinnertime!

While Rome burns, Nero plays YMCA

The New York Times writes that, when learning the news that he was going to be the first US President to ever be indicted, Trump was in the Mar-a-Lago patio playing some songs by The Village People.

Trump likes his Macho men

Indeed, during a 2022 interview with the Nelk Boys podcast, Trump revealed that ‘YMCA’ by The Village People was his “go-to banger”, while being completely oblivious of any sort of gay connection.

(Not) In The Navy

Bizarrely enough, The Village People sent a cease-and-desist letter to Trump in 2023 for using impersonators of the band while playing their songs in Mar-a-Lago. They also requested him to stop using their songs during his campaign rallies.

Song unavailable...

The Trump campaign got into trouble with most of these artists after they requested the former US President to stop using their songs during his rallies.

You can't stop the music

Still, they say nothing can’t stop the music, and more than a few people wished Trump would stick to his DJ career rather than try once again to return to the White House or make his way into the big house.
