Donald Trump is more popular than ever before
Donald Trump is more popular than ever, even though it may not seem like he’s making many popular moves now that he’s back in office. Recent polling shows the President is fairing better than at any other time in his past.
Trump may have only won the 2024 Election by a narrow 1.5-point margin but he’s said his win provided him with an “unprecedented and powerful mandate”. Well, that is what he claimed during a post-win interview with Time magazine according to Yahoo News.
Despite Trump’s narrow win, he’s set about introducing some questionable policies and plans, and while you may think levying tariffs and introducing mass deportations would hurt Trump, he only seems to be getting more popular.
The most recent polling results on Trump’s first weeks in office have revealed that he is actually more popular now than at any other time when he was in the Oval Office. One example comes from an early February CBS News and YouGov poll.
According to the polling, Trump earned an overall job approval rating of 53% compared to the 47% who disapproved. An overwhelming 70% of those surveyed said that Trump was doing what he promised on the campaign trail.
Trump’s time campaigning saw him make a number of concerning promises, but many of them appear to be popular with the American people. Trump’s mass deportation plan saw 59% approval while 53% of people favored tariffs on China.
Support for Trump’s tariff policies dropped when individuals were asked if they favored placing them on Mexico (44%), Europe (40%), and Canada (38%), but those numbers were still quite high and revealed the power Trump currently holds.
Survey respondents described Trump as tough (69%), energetic (63%), focused (60%), and effective (58%). The only category where the President seemed to suffer was in the perception that he was working to lower prices across the country.
One of Trump’s key campaign promises was that he would lower the cost of living in the United States. However, 66% of those surveyed said that Trump wasn't doing enough to lower prices—which is a problem that could come back to bite him in time.
Many (59%) individuals support Trump’s plan to deport immigrants in the United States illegally while 64% approve of him sending American troops to the Southern border and 48% favor immigrants being held in detention centers while being sorted for deportation.
Whether or not Trump will continue to see major approval for his policies and his job as President has yet to be seen, but he appears to be off to a very good start in his second term with Americans.
