Donald Trump's app TRUTH Social is now available
Donald Trump is one step closer to making his social media comeback. Late Sunday night, Truth Social launched on Apple's App Store in the United States.
On February 15th, Trump's oldest son Donald Jr tweeted a screenshot of his father's verified Truth Social account, @realDonaldTrump, showing a "truth" (a post) reading: "Get Ready! Your favorite President will see you soon!"
Shortly before midnight ET on February 20th, Trump's app became available to download, and Truth Social downloaded automatically onto Apple devices to users who preordered it.
However, according to Reuters, some have had difficulties registering for an account or have been put on a waitlist, receiving the message: "Due to massive demand, we have placed you on our waitlist."
CEO Devin Nunes, a former Republican U.S. Representative, now leading the TMTG, the group behind Truth Social, appeared on Fox News's 'Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo' to talk about the rollout.
Nunes said, "This week we will begin to roll out on the Apple App Store. That's going to be awesome, because we're going to get so many more people that are going to be on the platform."
Nunes added, "Our goal is, I think we're going to hit it, I think by the by the end of March we're going to be fully operational at least within the United States."
The release comes more than one year after Trump was kicked off Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters, after he was accused of posting messages inciting violence.
On October 20th, former President Donald Trump announced that he would be launching his own social media network called "TRUTH Social."
In the release, Trump said, "I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech."

"We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable."
The name of Trump's latest vanity project is quite humorous, especially since Trump talks about sending out "Truth" as one would use the word Tweet in the press release. "I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon."
The design of Trump's platform is quite simple and looks remarkably similar to another social media platform that already exists....Donald Trump's former favorite platform, Twitter.

This is the first large project by Trump's newest company, the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG).
TRUTH Social had its soft launch, by invite-only beta version, in November. However, the general public in the United States had to wait until February 21st to download the app.

Unfortunately, it appears that at the moment, only Apple users will be able to enjoy trying out Trump's app, which promises "no political discrimination or cancel culture."

Currently, TRUTH Social is only available at the Apple App Store. This is not surprising since Trump is attempting to sue Google, Facebook, and Twitter for violating his right to free speech.
Trump says that the platform is his way of standing up to Big Tech, stating in the release for TRUTH Social, "TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all."

Trump continued, "I'm excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech. Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!"
The Trump Media & Technology Group also plans on launching an on-demand subscription video service.

It will be called TMTG+, and reality television producer Scott St. John, known for his work on 'America's Got Talent,' will be leading the project. Perhaps it will feature 'The Apprentice.'
According to the company, TMTG+ will be "featuring 'non-woke' entertainment programming" because, apparently, Americans do not have access to enough conservative television programs...
And while at this moment there is very little information about it on the TMTG website, it seems Donald Trump also wishes to start his own news channel.
TMTG News will help Americans get the "real" news and not have to put up with all that "fake" news from other channels.

Along with the launch of TRUTH Social, the company also announced that the Trump Media & Technology Group had entered into a definitive merger agreement with Digital World Acquisition Corp., which allows TMTG to become a publicly listed company.

Per MarketWatch, Digital World Acquisition Corp. was founded on December 11, 2020, and is a blank-check company.

Blank-check companies do not have a specific business plan and are started for the purpose of merging or acquiring other companies.
After losing the election and being banned from multiple social media platforms for a variety of violations, such as inciting violence, Donald Trump has attempted to find a way to be able to express himself to a wide audience online.
Thus far, they haven't gone very well. For example, his blog "From the Desk of Donald J. Trump" did so poorly that after just one month, he shut it down.

It will be interesting to see how his new platform does and if TMTG is able to acquire investors to make all the TMTG projects a reality or if it will disappear just like Trump's blog.
Trump's social media platform ran into some problems shortly after launching. TRUTH Social uses Mastodon, a free, open-source software.
However, Trump failed to credit it and offer the source code to all users as Mastodon's license states all users must.
In November 2021, following a formal request from the Mastodon developers, TRUTH Social shared the source code via a ZIP file on its website.
