Hawaii volcano Kilauea has erupted intermittently for the past two months after suddenly becoming active on December 23.

According to the Associated Press, the spectacle has occurred nine times since then.

A touristic attraction

It has become an attraction for tourists who visit the National Park surrounding the active volcano.

Where is it?

Kilauea is located on the southeastern shore of the main island, around 200 miles southeast of Honolulu.

Shield volcano

The Hawaiian attraction is a shield volcano. These geological formations are concave, like a shield on the floor.

Authorities clarified that the lava is not dangerous for homes or infrastructure. Viewers can enjoy the spectacle without potential risks.

Monitored activity

On December 29, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory geologists collected video of one of the eruptions and shared the pictures through the US Geological Service.

Not the only volcanic wonder

According to the AP, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where Kilauea is, also encompasses the summit of another of the world’s most active volcanoes, Mauna Loa.
