Adding fuel to the fire

Another post from Marjorie Taylor Greene has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. On July 22 Greene posted on X and fueled the rumors regarding Joe Biden's withdrawal from the Presidential elections.

A secret group may be running the U.S.

Greene essentially insinuated some group of unknown individuals were not only behind the attempted assassination of Donald Trump but also that these people may have been behind the fall of Biden and the rise of Kamala Harris.

“They tried to assassinate Donald Trump”

“They tried to assassinate Donald Trump,” Greene wrote. “Joe Biden is rumored to have had a medical event in LV Nevada after being diagnosed with Covid then dropped out of race and is no where to be seen.”

They are propping up Kamala Harris!

“Now they have propped up Kamala Harris without any Democrat voters casting a single vote,” the Georgia Congresswoman added. “What is going on??? Who is doing this??? Who is running the country???”

Conspiracy theories have gotten out of hand

Conspiracy theories appear to have gotten a bit out of hand following the assassination attempt on the former president. In the hours after the shooting in Pennsylvania, it was clear something in modern American political discourse had changed.

Learning from the shooting in Pennsylvania

BBC News reported just one day after the attempted assassination of Trump that social media was alive with fringe theories about what happened. A pattern began to emerge in which many thought the incident was staged.

Some thought the assassination was staged

“It's a word that has become synonymous with conspiracy theories on the fringes of social media, often to cast doubts on an attack or shooting,” Marianna Spring of BBC News reported about the word ‘staged.’

Evidence-free speculation online

“In the last 24 hours it has flooded into mainstream online conversation, and posts filled with evidence-free speculation, hate and abuse have racked up millions of views on X,” Spring added.

Greene’s approach to the assassination

Greene took a much different approach in the wake of Trump’s assassination attempt, instead of calling the incident stage, the Georgia Congresswoman took to X to question the assassination attempt and its implications.

“I have so many questions”

“I have so many questions about how this 20 year old was able to nearly pull off assassinating Pres Trump by himself. This reeks of something a lot more sinister and bigger. There are too many things that do not make sense,” Greene wrote.

“I don’t care what anyone says”

“I don’t care what anyone says about me saying this, because everyone knows we are all thinking it. Fine call me a conspiracy theorist. I don’t give a d***. The insane left have been fantasizing out loud about killing Trump for years. Prove me wrong,” Greene added.

Vocalizing that ‘others’ in power

Greene's post-assassination attempt X message may have been the clearest vocalization of her growing theory that something bigger was afoot behind the big political situations unfolding in the country. It was a view clearly underpinning in her most recent social media rant.

A symptom of a larger problem?

However, Greene’s questions about who is running the country are just part of a larger problem that some politicians in the United States seem to have with the nature of what is happening in their country at the moment.

The conspiracy about Biden death

The New York Times reported in the wake of Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 Election and his disappearance from the public due to a Covid diagnosis has led many to think the President was no longer alive.

“A torrent of falsehoods and misleading posts”

Stuart A. Thompson of the New York Times explained that “the theory adds to a torrent of falsehoods and misleading posts by right-wing influencers that have spread since Mr. Biden’s announcement” notifying the country of his withdrawal from the 2024 election.

The coup against primary voters

“They have falsely denigrated Democrats for conducting a ‘coup’ against primary voters by removing Mr. Biden and have attacked Ms. Harris with a deluge of sexist and racist remarks,” Thompson added.

Biden is alive and well

Biden is alive. Cameras captured the President preparing to board Air Force One on July 23rd according to Mediatie, which noted Biden was returning from a trip to his family home in Rehoboth Beach where he was likely quarantining during his illness.

Will this problem get worse?

However, the fact that Biden has been shown alive may not stop people like Marjorie Taylor Greene from continuing to offer up new and more elaborate conspiracy theories, we will just have to wait until the next political crisis to see what happens.
