Inside info: Spy agency discloses Kim Jong-Un's hidden health issues
While much of the country is underfed and suffers from malnourishment, North Korea's leader Kim Jong-Un is bursting at the seams. Kim's weight is now causing him health concerns.
AP News writes that South Korea’s spy agency reported that Pyongyang is seeking for obesity-related medication to treat Kim Jong-un’s weight-related health problems.
The North Korean leader, who is in early 40s, reportedly is well-known for his fondness for drinking and smoking, plus a family history of heart-related problems.
The younger Kim’s father, Kim Jong-il, and grandfather, Kim Il-sung, both died of heart issues while they ruled North Korea.
Indeed, Kim Jong Il, who ruled North Korea from 1994 to 2011 after his father’s demise, passed away rather young, at the age of 69.
According to Sky News, Seoul’s National Intelligence Service estimates Kim Jong-un’s weight to be around 140 kg (over 308 pounds), making him high-risk for certain diseases.
The South Korean spy agency claims that officers of Pyongyang are looking for medication to treat diabetes and high blood pressure, with Kim allegedly showing symptoms since this early 30s.
AP News highlights that North Korea is one of the most secretive countries in the world, with no way for people outside the inner circle of the government to know the details about Kim Jong-un’s current health.
However, AP News points out that South Korea’s National Intelligence Service also has a spotty record on reporting developments in North Korea. They are hardly a neutral party.
One of the biggest concerns is who WILL take the mantle if something happens to Kim Jong-un, in case he’s impaired to govern or passed away.
Throughout its entire history, North Korea has been ruled by the Kim family, with power passing from father to son. Could he become the last ruler of the Kim Dynasty?
