His sexism was on full display again

Former President Donald Trump has long been criticized for his treatment of women but the latest example of his unabashed sexism took the problem to a whole new level while speaking at a campaign event over the Labor Day weekend.

Weird remarks at a Pennsylvania rally

During his August 30th campaign rally in Pennsylvania, an event that produced a whole lot of terrible sound bites, Trump actually thanked the husbands of a few diehard female supporters for letting the women follow him around the nation.

Trump says that women really love him

The former president kicked off his awkward comments by telling his crowd that women loved him despite what some might say, explaining he thought that the belief was wrong because women loved him and he loved women.

How Trump kicked off his comments

“Somebody said, ‘Women don’t like Donald Trump,’” Trump explained to the crowd. “I said, ‘I think that’s wrong. I think they love me.’ I love them,” the former president added before he turned the audience's attention to a group of women who have followed him to 227 rallies.

“They’ve got nothing but cash”

The Independent reported these women were from North Carolina before it recounted the awkward comments the former president made. “They’re wealthy as h***. Look at them. They’ve got nothing but cash,” Trump told the crowd.

“They allow them to go all over the country”

“Their husbands are great. But they allow them to go all over the country,” Trump said before telling the audience that he once asked the husbands how they “put up” with their wives always on the road.

“How do you put up with this?”

“How do you put up with this?” the former president recalled asking the husbands. “Your wives are traveling all over the place. Do you mind?” Trump said before adding that the men replied: “‘We trust our wives, sir… We trust them implicitly.”

The air of ‘weird’ Tim Walz coined

The series of comments from the former president gave off that special air of 'weird' that Tim Walz coined when he branded the Republicans with that term, but things only got stranger for the president when he dropped his last remark about the women.

“They’re always perfectly coiffed”

“They’re always perfectly coiffed, right? They’re beautiful,” Trump said. While the former president might think that such platitudes are earning him the affection of female voters in the country, polling tells a much different story about his popularity with women.

The latest data on who women support

The latest findings from an ABC News and Ipsos poll revealed Vice President Kamala Harris is faring far better with women than the former president in the days that followed the Democratic National Convention.

The race is still very close

“The race between them remains close, with no overall bounce in support for Harris out of her nominating convention, albeit with a wider gender gap,” wrote Gary Langer of ABC News in a breakdown of the new polling data.

Trump also didn’t have a convention bump

“Trump, too, was bounce-free after his convention in July, indicating the locked-in nature of their highly polarized contest as it enters its final two months,” Langer added.

Harris is ahead with female voters by 13 points

The new survey polled 2,496 adults representing a national sample and was conducted between August 23rd and August 27th. It found that Harris was leading Trump among women by a whopping 13 points with 54% of their vote to Trump’s 41%.

Trump is leading Harris among male voters

On the other hand, Trump was found to be ahead of Harris among male voters by 5 points with 51% of their support compared to Harris’ 46%. This coupled with the Vice President’s lead among women puts the election at an 18-point gender gap according to the survey data.

Harris got a bit of a post-convention bump

“Pre-convention, Harris had been a slight +6 points among women and a non-significant +3 among men, a 3-point gap. The gender gap now is more in line with recent elections - an average of 19 points in exit polls since 1996,” wrote Langer.

How things have changed

A lot of the moves between both women and men occurred among white voters according to the polling data. Trump had a 13-point lead among white women pre-convention but that has now dropped to a 2-point lead over Harris among the same group.

Trump’s lead with white men has increased

Trump’s 13-point pre-convention lead among white men increased to a 21-point lead. How these numbers will affect the outcome of the election is still unknown but it does seem things are breaking down more and more along gender lines for some.
