Outlandish

As Donald Trump's 2024 Presidential Campaign progresses, his statements continue to attract attention for their audacity and extravagance. These pronouncements, however, are not new; they hark back to a time during his electoral contest against Joe Biden.

Trump's rally at his Doral golf course in Florida

One of the clearest examples of the former president's backslide into some wild claims came during a campaign rally he held at his golf course resort in Doral, Florida on July 9th.

The former president came back strong after the debate

Trump was back out on the campaign trail after and he was "riding high as Democrats [continued] to scramble following Biden’s debate performance last month" according to New Republic's reporting on Trump's rally. The former president said so many crazy things news outlets couldn't keep up!

Trump was his characteristically boisterous self

The former president took his characteristically boisterous personality to Doral, Florida where a campaign rally at his golf course saw him spewing what New Republic called a “dizzying array of nonsense."

The Florida rally got a lot of news coverage

Trump was so unhinged news outlets had their pick of the litter on which weird remarks they wanted to report. One of the funniest observations of the rally came from The New Republic which commented on the size of Trump’s audience.

Was the rally really as big as Trump said it was?

The former president allegedly stated that 45,000 people had come out to his campaign rally in Doral but The New Republic noted it was more like 700 supporters.

The crowd size didn't stop Trump

However, large or small the crowd was in Florida, it didn’t stop the former president from hitting mentioning all his regular talking points or making several attacks on his political opponents.

Biden suffered several verbal assaults

Trump attacked Biden for his policies and tore into the president for his bad debate performance. He even challenged Biden to another debate, possibly forgetting he and Biden were set to face off again in September.

Offering redemption to Biden

“I’m officially offering Joe the chance to redeem himself in front of the entire world,” the former president said according to The Hill. “Let’s do another debate this week so that sleepy Joe Biden can prove to everyone all over the world that he has what it takes to be president."

Trump wants a man-to-man debate

“But this time it will be man-to-man, no moderators, no holds barred. Just name the place, anytime, anywhere,” Trump added.

Biden was accused of getting… facelifts?

Trump also claimed that Biden didn’t know what a synagogue was and he said Biden had three or four facelifts. “You know what took him so long to get into the race?” Trump said to the crowd. “The facelift didn’t work.”

Trump also insulated Kamala Harris

Biden wasn’t the only political figure who took a verbal beat down from Trump during his rally, Vice President Kamala Harris was also an object of Trump’s ire and Reuters decided to report on the former president’s vicious attack on Harris.

Choosing Harris was a brilliant idea

Trump said that Biden’s decision to choose Harris as his running mate was a “brilliant” one, not because of her political skills but rather insinuating because she was the only politician Democrats wouldn’t replace Biden with on top of their presidential ticket.

"It was an insurance policy”

"It was an insurance policy, maybe the best insurance policy I've ever seen," the former president declared. "If Joe had picked someone even halfway competent, they would have bounced him from office years ago." Trump may be regretting those now that he is facing off against Harris and she has tightened the presidential race.

Trump doesn’t think Florida would like Harris

"I don't think Kamala Harris's California socialism is going to go down well with the people of Doral, the people of Miami, or the people of Florida. Because in Florida we don't like socialism, we want our freedom," Trump also said.

Trump got weird about bacon

The Guardian reported on Trump’s weird statement that Biden increased the cost of bacon by four-fold before declaring: “We don’t eat bacon anymore.” The British news outlet also noted Trump’s rant about electric cars and a weird challenge he offered up to Biden.

Trump also challenged Biden to a round of golf

Trump challenged Biden to an 18-hole round of golf at Doral and even said he’d give Biden a 10-stroke concession. “It will be among the most watched sporting events in history, maybe bigger than the Ryder Cup or even the Masters,” Trump said.

Hannibal Lecter was praised… again

The former president also praised fictional serial murderer Hannibal Lecter again while in Doral according to The New Republic. “He was a lovely man. He would love to have you for dinner. He will take you. He had many people for dinner.”

Trump offered up a new conspiracy theory

Trump went off on a very conspiratorial tangent about countries emptying their jails to send “bloodthirsty terrorists, savage gang members, and child predators into the United States to prey on our people, to prey on you, to prey on everybody.”

The Florida rally was exactly what you would expect

All-in-all Trump’s performance in Doral was more of his typical rally bluster. The former president promised victory to his supporters and gave the nation a glimpse of what it can expect for another four years if Trump is voted back into office in November.
