Where was JD Vance during the transition?
JD Vance reappeared during the inauguration after being in the background during months of transition when he was not the co-protagonist next to President Trump.
According to AP News, Mr. Vance was set to be President Trump’s man in the Senate, helping introduce and guide his cabinet picks throughout confirmation hearings.
Still, the Vice President’s name has been almost entirely absent from the media, favoring other Trump allies with more vocal opinions and a more visible role in the transition.
Elon Musk was arguably the most visible person in the Trump transition, overshadowing Mr. Vance and other cabinet picks with a constant media presence and even influencing Congress.
Mr. Musk voiced many stances the new Administration could take. He even took over discourses JD Vance had dominated first, like the skepticism with the Labour Party UK government.
According to the AP, Mr. Trump picked his Vice President as the honorary chair of his transition team, so he was active, especially in selecting the cabinet.
”JD probably has a lot of current allies in the Senate, so it makes sense to have him utilized in that capacity,” Marc Short, Trump’s former director of legislative affairs, told the news agency.
The news agency said Mr. Vance’s picks for several offices, including Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., turned official as he advised the new President alongside his son, Donald Trump Jr.
Still, the AP said his role in the Senate has usually been filled by lower-profile politicians in transition efforts, including the previous Trump transition.
After his first election victory, Mr. Trump chose his former Vice President, Mike Pence, as the official chair of his transition, and he had a much more visible role.
Despite a prominent media presence during the campaign, the new vice president made fewer media appearances. However, he still managed to attract the anger of the MAGA movement.
According to the BBC, he told Fox News that the protester who committed acts of violence on Jan. 6 should not be pardoned, which angered many of Mr. Trump’s more devoted followers.
