America get ready to rumble! Biden finally got Trump to debate him
The race to win the White House in 2024 took an interesting turn on May 15th when Joe Biden publicly challenged Donald Trump to not one but two debates in a video message Biden published on social media.
“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020,” Biden wrote in a post with the video that is now pinned to his X account. “Since then, he hasn’t shown up for a debate. Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again.”
“I hear you’re free on Wednesdays,” the president said in his video callout with a grin in his video. The Independent noted that Biden’s remark was referencing the only day that Trump isn’t in court for his hush money trial in New York.
“Well, make my day, pal,” Biden added in his post, a message he made clear by also using it in the video calling on the former president to debate him. Trump was quick to accept Biden’s challenge via a post on social media.
Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Crooked Joe Biden is the WORST debater I have ever faced – He can’t put two sentences together! Crooked is also the WORST President in the history of the United States, by far,” he said.
The former president’s rant went on to note that it was time for a debate between him and Biden so that Biden could explain his open border policy, ridiculous electric vehicle mandates, and other policies of the “American People”.
“I am Ready and Willing to Debate Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September,” Trump wrote. “I would strongly recommend more than two debates and, for excitement purposes, a very large venue.”
Trump went on to blast Biden for supposedly being “afraid of crowds” and adding it was only because he didn’t “get them”. The former president ended his acceptance message by writing: “Just tell me when, I’ll be there. “Let’s get ready to Rumble!!!”
As of May 16th, the when and where have allegedly been sorted out according to CNN, which reported that it has scheduled the first of the two debates between Biden and his Republican rival for June 27th.
“I’ve received and accepted an invitation from @CNN for a debate on June 27th. Over to you, Donald. As you said: anywhere, any time, any place,” Biden wrote in a post he published on X. Trump also responded that he could debate on June 27th.
“The answer is yes, I will accept,” the former president told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. The American news outlet also reported that both Biden and Trump had accepted an invitation from ABC News to hold the second debate on September 10th.
ABC News reported that the former president’s campaign team wanted to hold a total of four debates. Trump campaign advisors Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles wrote that they wished to have debates in both July and August as well.
"Additional dates will allow voters to have maximum exposure to the records and future visions of each candidate,” LaCivita and Wiles wrote in a memo according to a report from ABC News. However, Biden’s campaign nixed the idea.
Biden Campaign Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement that the former president had “a long history of playing games with debates: complaining about the rules, breaking those rules, pulling out at the last minute, or not showing up at all.”
"President Biden made his terms clear for two one-on-one debates, and Donald Trump accepted those terms," Biden’s Campaign Chair continued. "No more games. No more chaos, no more debate about debates."
NBC News reported CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash will serve as the moderators for the first debate on June 27th. David Muir and Linsey Davis will serve as moderators for the second debate being held by ABC News on September 10th.
Trump noted on Truth Social that he accepted an invitation from Fox News to debate on October 2nd with Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum hosting. However, The Hill reported Fox News would be ruled out under Biden’s debate conditions.
Biden’s campaign suggested coordinating the debates with news outlets that hosted the 2016 GOP Primary debates that Trump had participated in and those that also hosted the 2020 Democratic Primary debates Biden had participated in order to avoid bias.
