An Eggxtreme Problem! Food prices in the US are getting out of control
Food prices have gone up all across the United States in recent years, but some staples are far more expensive today than in 2021. Just how bad have things gotten? Well, it’s a lot worse than you might think according to the data.
The global data and business intelligence firm Statista provided a better picture of how bad prices have risen among a host of staple foods using three years of price data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Let’s look at how things have changed since 2021.
However, before diving into some of the biggest changes, it is important to point out that from 2021 to 2025, the period the price change data examines, the nominal U.S. wage growth only increased by 20%. Keep that in mind when you look at food price changes.
