Mistakes you should not make with your dog

Dogs are our best friends, so we must take care of them, watch over them and raise them as they deserve. For this reason, we are going to take a look at a series of mistakes that many dog owners and owners make.

Neglect their health

No matter how much work, stress and lack of time you have, there are elements such as vaccination that are essential for a dog. Distemper, rabies, canine parvovirus or hepatitis are some diseases that you will avoid by vaccinating your furry friend.

Neglect your deworming

On the other hand, you should also monitor deworming, a procedure that you must carry out four times a year, both inside and outside the body of your pup. Avoiding the presence of fleas or ticks is essential for their health.

Excessive food

Your dog has his food and you have yours, do not get him used to eating human food, as it can cause overweight problems in your pet, with dire consequences.

The risks of overfeeding

From muscular and bone problems, to respiratory complications and heart problems -these are just a few of the issues your dog could suffer if you overfeed him.

On the street without a leash

Be careful about letting your dog run around off leash. There are many dangers that dogs face if they are allowed to wander the streets leash less.

Aggressive dogs, dangerous food, dog-nappers

For starters, you fur-baby could be attacked by another dog, he may eat spoiled food off the ground, or worse, poisoned food. And yes, there is always the possibility that somebody kidnaps your beloved pet, taking advantage of the fact that it is loose.

Search for safe areas

If you want your dog to run free and calm, take your pup to authorized, delimited and safe areas.

Not giving Fido enough attention

Having a dog at home is wonderful, but also a responsibility. They are very sociable animals and therefore require time to socialize, play and be cared for by their owners. Failing to do so will cause your dog to act up and try to get your attention in ways you may not like.

Spend quality time together

Simply take small breaks in your free time at home and spending 10 minutes with your furry friend will make your dog so happy. Play together, relax and show fido some love.

Long waits

It is advisable not to leave a dog alone at home for more than 8 hours, which completely clashes with the working day in most countries. If you leave your dog alone for that long, particularly indoors, the dog may have "accidents" but worse than that, the dog may become depressed.

Routine and constancy

When it comes to taking the dog out, try to maintain certain routines and schedules, so the animal will get used to it and get used to your schedule. Obviously, it is recommended to take your dog out a minimum of three times a day and for half an hour each time. But that's the bare minimum, if you can take your dog out more often, the happier your pup will be.

Not insuring your pet

Do not think of insurance as a document in which you admit the dangerousness of your dog. Nothing is further from reality. Pet insurance, in addition to covering possible damage to third parties, has many other advantages.

Advantages of insurance

Depending on the insurance, you can cover some expenses in case of accidents, veterinary check-ups, hospital admissions or euthanasia. In many cases, it's worth it.

No physical exercise

Dogs need more than a walk around the block to stay in shape. If you want your furry friend to maintain proper physical tone and release accumulated stress, you must go beyond the mere walk.

Tire him out playing

From running with him, to throwing him the ball or a plush toy, to running with other dogs, it is important that your dog gets regular exercise.

No mental exercise

Just as we train your pet's body, you must also train their mind.  Through physical training, learning tricks, practicing good behaviours, you will help your dog be the best they can be.

Boost their skills

Challenging your dog mentally isn't too hard. You can use specific toys for dogs that help them keep their minds awake, active, enhance learning and, above all, strengthen our bond with them.

Physical punishment

Basically, using physical punishment to train, scold, or educate a dog is completely counterproductive. Not only will you trigger their stress, but you will weaken your bond with them and distract them from what they are supposed to be doing.

Breaking ties

Physical punishment will undoubtedly break the bond with your beloved pet, so that is why it is best to use positive reinforcement when they do something right.
