Guilty

Hunter Biden has been found guilty of the three charges he faced in court, regarding his substance use when purchasing a gun.

Three serious crimes

After a week of testimonies, evidence and witnesses, a Delaware jury has declared the guilt of Joe Biden's son, which could put him in prison as it is a criminal trial, according to The New York Times.

Hunter took the verdict well

Following the verdict CNN reported that Hunter Biden told the press that despite the verdict he was grateful for the support his friends and family had shown him adding, “Recovery is possible by the grace of God, and I am blessed to experience that gift one day at a time.”

Naturally disappointed

Biden's attorney, Abbe Lowell, told the press that they were "naturally disappointed" about the verdict and planned to “vigorously pursue all the legal challenges available to Hunter.”

All for a gun

Hunter Biden was found guilty of making two false statements when filling out a form to buy a Colt revolver in October 2018: first by stating untruthfully that he was not addicted to or using drugs, and then by declaring the statement to be true.

Shady business

A third charge alleged that he then illegally owned the gun for 11 days, before his sister-in-law and then lover, Hallie Biden, threw it in a trash bin in a panic.

Up to 25 years in prison

The three crimes are considered serious and carry sentences of up to 25 years in prison and fines of up to $750,000.

He will not serve the maximum sentence but...

However, experts believe that Joe Biden's son's sentence will be much smaller, and they even doubt that he will go to prison.

Accompanied by his uncle and his wife

Hunter Biden received the verdict alongside his wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, and James Biden, his uncle, and Joe Biden's brother.

Ammunition for the Republicans

Although the crime was committed before his father's term, it seems clear that the sentence will affect his father's re-election and that the Republicans will take advantage of it as much as they can.

It happened in 2018

The events occurred in October 2018 in Delaware, when Hunter Biden acquired a Colt Cobra Special that he had in his possession for 11 days.

Addicted?

According to the accused, at that time, he suffered from a "total addiction to c r a c k," something that prosecutors denied during the trial, ensuring that he was not a regular user of this drug.

The sentence will arrive in the middle of the campaign

Once the verdict is known, the sentence usually takes about 120 days so that it would arrive in mid-October, in the middle of the race for the presidential elections on November 5 between his father Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

Will he go to prison?

Dru Stevenson, a professor at the South Texas College of Law in Houston, told the BBC that Hunter Biden had a 50% chance of going to prison and that his sentence could be around 20 months.

Probation option

However, the professor also contemplates another scenario and that is conditional release, something very acceptable due to the alleged success in the rehabilitation of the accused.

A resigned father

Joe Biden, in a statement, acknowledged that "I will accept the result of the case", remembering that "I am the president but I am also a father", indicating he would stand by his son, whatever the sentence.

Another pending trial

The worst thing for the Bidens is that Hunter will have to face another trial in September, for alleged evasion of $1.4 million in federal taxes. So many trials before the election is hardly ideal.
