Is Joe in trouble? Trump's campaign raised more money than Biden's for the first time
April fundraising data for the presidential race is in, and Trump has exceeded the amount raised by President Biden for the first time since the campaign started, a win for the Republican.
The information is public because Presidential campaigns are required to file monthly financial reports with the Federal Election Commission. However, a large part of their funding will be concealed until July.
According to The New York Times, former President Trump's campaign raised more than $76 million from the Republican Party and all of its affiliated committees.
On the other hand, President Biden's campaign raised only $51 million in April with the Democratic National Committee.
The New York Times said the $51 million was nearly half as much as President Biden's campaign raised in March and a little less than it raised in February.
March was a good month for the Biden campaign. Politico said it raised around $90 million from post-State of the Union events, including a Radio City Music Hall fundraiser.
Still, Biden's campaign has raised much more money than Trump's, and the New York Times reported that the Democrat had almost double the cash on hand by the end of the month.
Biden is also spending much more than Trump on on-the-ground campaigning. Politico said the Democratic campaign's payroll grew to nearly $3 million in April despite reducing $25 million in spending.
Politico analyzed the expenses of both campaigns in March and concluded that the Republican presidential hopeful is spending less of his money on actual campaigning than Biden.
According to the outlet, the former President's campaign funds increased in April thanks to his takeover of the RNC after officially securing the GOP nomination.
Still, it might not be enough for the Republicans. Politico said that Trump is burning through his campaign money almost as fast as he is raising it and spending only half on his campaign.
The media outlet said Trump's political committees spent roughly $217 million through March. They split the money equally between fundraising expenses, legal bills, and campaigning.
In April, the spending changed a little. According to Politico, Trump spent $5.5 million on his campaign. Direct mailing was the most significant bill: $1.4 million. Still, he only spent half a million on salaries, as his staff is roughly 65 people.
In April, Trump spent more on legal fees than on campaign staff. Politico said the Republican campaign paid over $3.3 million in legal fees. Including over $800,000 for his New York hush money case defense.
Still, Politico reported that Trump increased his fundraising capabilities by launching two more joint fundraising committees, so his pockets could fill much more in the coming months.
Biden is not staying behind though. Next month, the President will attend an LA reception with former President Obama and stars like Jimmy Kimmel, George Clooney, and Julia Roberts.
