What does she mean?

Marjorie Taylor Greene revived her calls for a national divorce in a frenzied social media post that called for the division of the nation between those who support President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda and those who don’t support his policy plans.

Zeroing in on the political divide

The Georgia Congresswoman was specifically zeroing in on the growing divide between red-state and blue-state governors over Trump’s plans for the next four years, plans that blur state governors are poised to threaten as he takes office.

Blue governors plan to fight back

The Daily Beast noted that recent reports have indicated that some blue state governors are working together in order to oppose the worst of what Trump has said he planned to do when he takes office, such as his mass deportation policies.

California is leading the way

For example, California Governor Gavin Newsom has already called a special legislative session in the state to figure out how California can safeguard its values and rights in the face of a second Trump term.

A coalition of Governors

Colorado and Illinois Governors Jared Polis and J.B. Pritzker are reportedly creating a coalition of American governors that plan to safeguard democracy and protect the country’s state-level institutions from the federal government during Trump’s next four years.

Greene’s response

Greene responded to the moves by blue state governors on X in a post that read: “With Democrat governors threatening the upcoming Trump administration’s mandate by the American people… I’m still in favor of a national divorce if need be.”

Accusations of treason

“If Democrat governors plan to commit treason against our President and the majority of Americans then let them destroy their own states,” Greene continued before adding that no one would want to live in those states as a result of their actions.

Sick of the left

“After years of being attacked by the deranged left, most of us are so sick of their crap,” Greene added. However, this wasn’t the first time the Georgia Congresswoman called for a national divorce over differences between the left and right.

Not the first call for a national divorce

In February 2023, Greene publicly called for a national divorce in a way that made many believe she was advocating for a second U.S. Civil War according to The Independent. She would later double down on her comments.

Irreconcilable differences

Greene explained in a February 21st, 2023 post on X that the left and right in America had reached a point where their differences were irreconcilable. She suggested that a national divorce rather than a civil war was the answer.

A national divorce isn’t a civil war

According to Greene, a national divorce, unlike a civil war, would be a legal agreement that could separate America’s “ideological and political disagreements by states while maintaining our legal union.”

“Disgusted and fed up with the left”

“I’ll speak for the right and say, we are absolutely disgusted and fed up with the left cramming and forcing their ways on us and our children with no respect for our religion/faith, traditional values, and economic & government policy beliefs,” Greene explained.

Greene defended her position

During an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Greene defended her idea and explained that everyone she spoke with in everyday life was “sick and tired and fed up with being bullied by the left, abused by the left, and disrespected by the left.”

The right is under siege

“Our ideas, our policies, and our ways of life have become so far apart that it’s just coming to that point. And the last thing I ever want to see in America is a civil war,” Greene continued.

Greene wants to avoid civil war

“No one wants that – at least everyone I know would never want that – but it’s going that direction and we have to do something about it,” Greene continued.

Expect more rhetoric

Whether or not Greene’s assessment of the political situation in the United States is correct has yet to be seen, but with Trump back in power, we should expect to hear more worrying ideas from his most fervent followers.
