Meet aspiring politician Eduardo Verástegui, the Mexican Trump

Trump even organized a screening of the film at his New Jersey golf club, which was attended by Verástegui, who was described by the host as “the future president of Mexico,” according to 'TIME'.

Although many Mexicans know and remember Verástegui for his performances in soap operas and films from the 90s and 2000s, the actor has built a career focused on promoting religious and traditional values. And although he has hundreds of thousands of followers, his controversial opinions have generated debate.

The most recent controversy broke out after the Mexican actor published a video in which he threatens environmentalists and LGBT+ people.

“Look what we are going to do to the terrorists of the 2030 agenda, climate change and gender ideology,” the actor wrote along with the video in which he appears firing a military rifle.

After being accused of inciting hatred and violence, he tweeted that the video was “satire.” “What I’m saying is that, with strength and aim, we are going to combat progressive culture and policies,” he wrote.

However, it was not the first time that he promoted hatred towards the LGBT+ community. The actor has said on more than one occasion that there is a link between child abuse and the LGBT+ community.

When retweeting a news story that exposed an alleged case of a gay marriage that had adopted and prostituted minors, Verástegui wrote “And they said there was no link.”

The tweet generated a massive wave of criticism from X users, to which was added that of an actor who accuses him of having organized o r g i e s with Antonio Berumen, a music producer accused of abusing another man, as reported by SDP Noticias.

Despite having ultra-conservative and anti-LGBT+ ideas, it is said that at the beginning of the 2000s, when Verástegui was part of a 'boy band' called Kairo, he had a romantic relationship with the singer Ricky Martin, as stated in the television program 'Gossip no like'.

It is said that the relationship ended in 2005 because Verástegui did not want a public relationship. That year, Ricky Martin sold his mansion in Miami where they both lived and a few years later, the singer made his homosexuality public.

Although there is not much evidence to support the relationship, other than an alleged love letter, it is a fact that they lived together. Verástegui, however, has denied the relationship when questioned by reporters.

Like Trump, Verástegui is in favor of criminalizing abortion. The day the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice declared the criminalization of abortion unconstitutional, the actor associated an earthquake with the court's decision.
