The top ten American cougar towns have been revealed

One of the most pressing questions of the year has finally been answered but it isn’t what you’d expect. Yes, it’s true. We finally know the top ten U.S. cities where modern mature women are looking for love from a younger crowd. 

It might seem a bit tongue and cheek but the revelation comes at a time when people all over the country are looking for someone to spend their winter with, and if you’re a mature lady, there are 10 places you should go.

The ranking was put together by the interesting age-gap dating app Cougar Life, and if you don’t get the reference in the app’s name then let us enlighten you. A ‘cougar’ is an older woman who seeks a relationship with a younger man.

Wikihow defined a cougar as a woman typically in her 40s and on the hunt for a man who is generally 10 years younger. Age should never be a limiting factor in love of course, but it can be difficult for some to find that one special person.

“Although this term originated as a way to label older women who date younger men as predatory, this can absolutely be seen as a good thing,” the Award-winning research psychologist Dr. Sarah Hill told Dating News. 

“These are women who don’t let their age or others’ beliefs about how older women should act get in the way of their choice of partners,” Dr. Hill continued.

So where do you need to go if you’re in search of the perfect age-gap relationship with a man or woman who fits your desire? Well, it might surprise you to learn Florida is one of the top states when it comes to cougars on the prowl.

Miami was top of the list when it came to older women looking for a relationship with a younger man but The Magic City wasn’t the only city in the Sunshine State to make the top of the ranking. 

Orlando was ranked as the second most popular city where cougars were looking for a man at least ten years younger, and again it might surprise you to learn that there was a third city in Florida that made the list.

Unfortunately, the third Floridian city wasn’t ranked in the third spot. Las Vegas, which is known as Sin City, took the third spot and that makes a lot of sense considering what the gambling capital of the country represents.

Surprisingly, Atlanta came in fourth place but it wasn’t the only interesting city to make the list based on the data from Cougar Life, which compiled its ranking using signup data from between February 2022 to October 2023 according to the Daily Mail, which reported on the ranking.

Cincinnati took the fifth spot before the glorious return to Florida. Tampa Bay was ranked sixth on the list and the third city in Florida to have a stunning number of cougars hunting for love and it was followed by four rather unusual cities in the US. 

Richmond (7th), Minneapolis (8th), Cleveland (9th), and Anchorage (10th) made up the remainder of the top ten American cities where women were seeking an age-gap relationship, but there’s a lot more to the story than just where America’s cougars are getting frisky. 

Why some women seek a relationship with younger men isn’t hard to understand Dr. Hill explained to Daily Mail. Hill revealed that most older women choose to pursue younger partners because they have qualities they might not get from older partners.

Hill partnered with the market research firm Ipsos and Cougar Life in May 2022 to study the many positive benefits men and women could gain from age-gap dating and they discovered a lot about what intrigues each individual.

“For female users of Cougar Life – many of whom have experience dating younger men – report being drawn to the sexual stamina (80 per cent), attractiveness (73 per cent) and open-mindedness of their younger partners (69 per cent),” Hill explained.

'Seventy-seven percent of Cougar Life users and 54 per cent of randomly sampled American men report an older woman's emotional maturity is one of the most attractive features of older partners,' Dr. Hill revealed.

When explaining why a state like Florida might have more older women seeking to find a relationship with a younger man, Hill said that it had a lot to do with the unique culture of the state as a place where people retire.

“Florida is known for being a mecca for those who have retired and is home to a number of older women with access to resources and time to pursue relationships with men for the sake of fun and pleasure alone,” Hill told the Daily Mail.

"It is also a place where people are continuing to invest in looking their best across all age ranges,” Hill explained before going on to say that Florida was a great place for men interested in older women to find them.

“With an abundance of beautiful older women who have time and resources to invest in having fun, carefree relationships, this is a great place for men to dip their toes in the water of female-led age gap relationships,” Hill said.
