Which are the best (and the worst) US states to live in?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention keeps record on life expectancy across the United States and the results are very telling.
The results reveal that people in the West and New England live the longest. Meanwhile, the US South has it worse, with a gap of almost 10 years.
Currently, the average life span of Americans is of 76 years.

The CDC study points out that overall life expectancy in the United States fell down 1.8 years since 2019, the biggest decline since World War 2, as a consequence of Covid-19.
The South showed the lowest life expectancy of the entire union with Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Mississippi making up the bottom of the list.
The Midwest isn’t in a good position either. Ohio (40), Indiana (38), Michigan (28), and Illinois (25) are all located in the lower part of the list.
Number 10 on the list is Connecticut. Located between New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, this state has a life expectancy of 78.4.

Utah hits the 9th spot, with a total life expectancy of 78.6.

Oregon gives some Northwestern representation, reaching 8th place with a life expectancy of 78.8 years and tying with Vermont.
In 2021, the US News and World Report ranked Portland, Oregon, as the safest place to live in the United States and the eighth-best place to reside.
The Green Mountain State lands in the seventh spot on the list. According to the CDC, Vermont has an average life expectancy of 78.8.

The New England trend continues with New Hampshire, in 6th place. Residents of the Switzerland of America have an average life span of 79.
According to the website US News, the state ranks ninth in healthcare access, number one in public safety, and second in nature!
Massachusetts ties with New Hampshire, with a life expectancy of 79 years.
WalletHub’s 2021 ranking also places Massachusetts as the second-best state to overall live, just after New Jersey!
California follows the trend of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, offering a life span average of 79 years.

The golden state’s almost 40 million residents can enjoy a broad variety of landscapes and environments. From big cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco to deserts, mountains, lakes, and, of course, spectacular beaches!
Minnesota puts other Midwest states to shame, landing the third spot on the list. The land of 10,000 lakes residents have an average lifespan of 79.1 years.

The West Coast is fully completed now with the state of Washington, which gets the silver medal thanks to an average life span of 79.2.
