Remembering that time Trump called the U.S. "a third-world country run by perverts"
Donald Trump has been known to run his mouth and say things his regrets later on. Back in the summer of 2023, Trump really had a loose tongue and said some things that will undoubtedly come back to bite him in the future.
Over the summer the former-president gave a speech in Florida where he made some pretty unsavory remarks about the United States and its leaders. After years of listening to the former president blurt out whatever shocking things came to his mind you’d think Donald Trump would have run out of ways to raise eyebrows.
Sadly that isn’t the case and in August 2023 Trump took his divisive rhetoric to all-new heights while speaking at a conservative event in Florida.
While speaking as the closing act at the Turning Point Action Conference in West Palm Beach, Trump went off on everything from the state of the nation under Joe Biden to the rigged election in 2022 and the multiple investigation against him and his conduct.
The most problematic of Trump’s remarks came when he said the United States was a “third-world h e l l hole” that was run by “perverts” and “thugs.” The remarks may not seem like much but they revealed the very real and very worrying state of American politics.
For example, Trump took a lot of time during his nearly two-hour speech to harp about the state of the nation under Biden and the Democrats, linking each to fascism while explaining to the assembled crowd the utter importance of the next presidential election.
“The election will decide whether your generation will inherit a fascist country or a free country,” the former president told conservatives before going on to paint a very worrying picture of the United States under the leadership of Joe Biden and his accomplices.
“Millions of illegal aliens have stormed across our borders, it is an invasion,” the former president said. Our rights and liberties are being torn to shreds. Your country is being turned into a third-world h**lhole, run by censors, perverts criminals, and thugs.”
Trump's remarks came in the wake of his legal troubles and as yet another prosecutor looks to indict the former president on charges for the way he behaved while in office and could be why Trump’s become so enamored with his idea of America under Biden.
Trump ranted and raved about rigged elections to his audience in Florida and spent a lot of time discussing the investigations into his conduct, railing against the people working to bring the former president to justice for his alleged crimes.
"Every time the radical left Democrats, Marxists, communists and fascists indict me, I consider it to be a great badge of honor and courage," Trump said according to a report from Newsweek. "I am doing it for you. I am being indicted for you. Better me than you."
This type of divisive language has become a hallmark of Trump’s campaign to recapture the White House and it should be worrying to onlookers since it appears as if the former president has found a way to up the ante of losing the next election for his followers.
Trump also gave his audience a little insight into a few of the new policies he’s hoping to enact once elected to office again, and it wouldn’t surprise you to learn they look a lot like agenda items from his first term. A good example is a more powerful travel ban.
"When I return to office, the travel ban is coming back even bigger and much stronger than before," Trump said. "The United States will not be condemned for the same fate as countries like France which are truly going through h**l right now."
Unfortunately, the former president has a realistic chance of being reelected. Trump has consistently been polling well ahead of his biggest competition Ron DeSantis.
That means Trump is likely to face off against Biden in the general election, a scenario the former president probably thinks he’ll win in a landslide based on how he portrayed Biden during his speech in Florida, mocking his gaffe at the NATO summit in Vilnius.
"Did you see the other day, two days ago, he called...[Biden's] talking to the president of Ukraine and he said 'Vladimir.' He meant Zelensky," Trump said, going on to make fun of Biden’s mental fitness with his hands according to Newsweek.
