Trump is thrilled that Putin endorsed Biden
On February 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Russian media in an interview that he preferred Joe Biden for President over Donald Trump; he gave Trump one of the best Valentine's gifts he could ever give the former American President.
As reported by CNN, Putin was interviewed by Russian media and asked about who he preferred, President Donald Trump or Joe Biden.
Putin said he'd pick Biden over Trump because Biden is "more experienced" and "more predictable." In addition, The Russian leader said he did not think that Biden had any cognitive impairments at all.
Some might think that after the "close" relationship that Putin and Trump were known for during his presidency, Donald Trump would have taken offence.
Trump has spoken frequently while on the campaign trail about his good relationship with Putin and even called him smart. Furthermore, Trump has made multiple statements at rallies claiming that if he had been reelected the war in Ukraine would have never happened.
But in reality by in endorsing Joe Biden Putin gave Trump the greatest of gifts; after all, who wants to vote for the guy that Putin supports?
Trump spoke about Putin's endorsement at a rally in North Charleston, South Carolina, on February 15. He essentially said he was flattered by Putin's remarks: "President Putin of Russia has just given me a great compliment, actually."
Trump continued, "He just said that he would much rather have Joe Biden as president than Trump. Now that's a compliment. ... And of course, he would say that."
Speaking at the North Charleston rally Trump added that it is only natural that Vladimir Putin would prefer Joe Biden to him as President. Trump said that when he was President he stopped Russia from getting what they wanted, in reference to the controversial Nord Stream 2, German-Russian pipeline
"I stopped Nord Stream 2, and [Biden] approved it right after I left, so Putin is not a fan of mine actually," Trump said. Comments which are hard to take seriously after everything Trump has said about his great relationship with the Russian leader.
Although it is true that Trump imposed sanctions on the pipeline (which Biden later waivered) which worried many due to the power it would give Russia over European energy.
Donald Trump then used this oportunity to say that with Biden in power Putin's aspirations of conquering Ukraine will come true, and that if Trump were in power this would not be possible.
Trump said, "He(Putin) doesn't want to have me. He wants Biden because he's going to be given everything he wants, including Ukraine. He's gonna have his dream of getting Ukraine because of Biden." Which is a pretty odd comment considering all that Biden has done to support Ukraine.
Then despite his claims of being on such good terms with Putin and even saying he'd encourage Russia to attack NATO allies just days earlier, Trump concluded: "The only president in the last five that hasn't given Russia anything is a president known as Donald J. Trump."
Undoubtedly Putin's comments about Biden hurt the Democrats' re-election campaign. Perhaps Putin decided to help out his buddy Trump as a thank-you too him for his NATO comments.
In fact the Biden-Harris campaign thinks just as much. According to USA Today, regarding Trump's NATO comments the Biden-Harris campaign representatives said, "Donald Trump just gave Vladimir Putin the best possible Valentine's Day present: his pinky-promise to give Putin the green light to mow down our allies in Europe if he's elected president."
