Ukrainian forces score significant victory against Russian troops
On January 9, the 47th Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine reported successfully repelling a significant Russian offensive in the Kursk border area, according to a statement from the brigade.
Soldiers from the 47th Mechanized Brigade reportedly halted six different assault waves by Russian troops in cooperation with other units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Combat footage of the assault was published online by the brigade’s press service. It revealed the massive amount of military equipment Russian forces used in their attacks according to the Ukrainian military website Militarnyi.

“In addition to the units of the 47th Magura Separate Mechanized Brigade, soldiers from neighboring units holding the line in this area were also burning enemy vehicles,” noted Militarnyi about the intense battle that unfolded.

At least 50 pieces of Russian equipment were destroyed by Ukrainian forces in total in the battle, which the brigade reported began with Russian forces using tanks to trawl a minefield separating the sides in its first convoy.

Russian forces attempted to break through Ukrainian defensive positions using infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and troop buggies, but every assault failed to achieve a tactical breakthrough across the line of attack.

Ukrainian forces used first-person view drones and explosive munitions dropped from bomber drones to pick apart Russian armor and infantry troops as they pushed forward.

The 47th Mechanized Brigade reported that as a result of the assaults, Russian forces suffered 98 casualties, 45 were soldiers killed and another 52 were wounded.

As previously noted, Russian forces also lost 50 pieces of military equipment. However, the combat footage published by the brigade does not show this many destroyed units of equipment and its claims have not been independently verified.

The video edits together several scenes and viewpoints of the battle. While it may not show the total destruction Ukrainian forces inflicted, it does provide a good overview of how they are able to destroy large assault groups according to Miltiarnyi’s analysis.

“The video shows how a large group of Russian infantry was destroyed by artillery, including cluster munitions and drones,” Miltiarnyi explained.

“In addition, Ukrainian defenders engaged a tank to neutralize the enemy assault group, which fired at the Russians at close range,” Militarnyi added.
