One and done for Biden

It’s over. After many weeks of speculation and pressure, Joe Biden has officially abandoned seeking four more years as President of the United States after caving into pressure from the media and the Democratic Party.

The greatest honor

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President”, Biden wrote in the letter announcing his withdrawal, shared over social media.

Party and country

“While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling the duties as President for the remainder of my term”, wrote Biden.

Biden's pick

According to the letter, Biden would speak to the country in the following days to explain his decision to step down as candidate. However, he gave his support to a potential Democratic candidate.

Biden supports Harris

The current US President, who described Kamala Harris as an “extraordinary partner”, offered his support to his VP in seeking the Democratic nomination.

'My full support and endorsement for Kamala'

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year”, Biden wrote on social media. “Democrats. It’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this”.

Betrayed

Just a few days earlier, The New York Times wrote that Biden was feeling increasingly alienated and betrayed from other high-ranking members of the Democratic Party, including Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.

The Clinton seal of approval

One hour after Biden's announcement, Bill and Hillary Clinton expressed their support for Kamala Harris as Democratic candidate on social media.

The debate night disaster

Although issues about Biden’s age have been around since the very beginning, it was only after the CNN debate against Donald Trump that it started to badly affect his polling numbers.

Trump's momentum

Particularly taking into account the momentum earned by Donald Trump after surviving an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Loud and clear

Journalists, politicians, and even Hollywood stars such as George Clooney voiced their concern about Biden’s mental capacity and called for him to step aside and give a chance to some other candidate. The President has heard them.

Countdown to Chicago

The Democratic National Convention, taking place in Chicago from August 19 to 22, will officially name the party’s candidate. With Biden’s withdrawal, there’s no clear challenger to face Donald Trump in November.

Enough to defeat Trump?

Will Kamala Harris be able to face Donald Trump at the polls? Or is his second term in the White House a foregone conclusion?
