In October 2024, Ukrainian forces fighting on the frontlines of the war knocked out a Russian tank in spectacular fashion. The tank was destroyed after a failed assault and its massive explosion was captured by a reconnaissance drone above the battlefield.

It was the result of a failed attack

Ukrainian soldiers of the 60th Mechanized Brigade fought off a powerful Russian attack near the village of Torsek according to a report from the brigade on Telegram.

A battle in the Donetsk region

The battle occurred in the Donetsk region. Russian forces suffered a lot of equipment losses as a result of their failure, but one loss was captured by an overhead drone and the video was released by the 60th Brigade.

Russia attacked with several vehicles

Russian forces deployed several armored vehicles during the assault. These vehicles were reportedly covered with shielding meant to protect them against drone attacks according to a report from Militarnyi. However, this shielding didn't prove useful.

Extra drone protection didn’t help

The extra protection didn’t prevent any of the assaulting Russian armored vehicles or tanks from Ukrainian drone assaults. While several of the vehicles were destroyed, a tank was hit in just the right spot and it resulted in a spectacular explosion.

“Another success for the 60th Brigade”

“Another enemy assault is another success for the 60th Brigade!” the brigade wrote on Telegram about the destruction of the Russian tank, which was captured on video.

Meet the ‘Vidar’ FPV Drone Company

A first-person view (FPV) drone of the FPV Drone Company ‘Vidar’ was able to target the tank and deliver what the 60th Mechanized Brigade said was “a devastating blow.”

The Russian tank’s ammunition was hit

Militarnyi reported that the Ukrainian FPV drone hit the ammunition in the Russian tank, which detonated as a result and caused the massive explosion seen in the video.

A massive explosion resulted

The 60th Mechanized Brigade wrote on Telegram that the explosion of the tank was “so powerful that it was probably seen even on the ISS!” Though this was likely only in jest.
