Remarkable combat footage shows Ukrainian soldiers storming a Russian trench
Combat footage recorded by a bomb-dropping drone captured a Ukrainian assault on a Russian trench position. The remarkable footage showed how frontline infantry soldiers are combining old tactics with modern technology.
On December 27th, the 225th Assault Battalion posted a clip of the battlefield encounter on their Facebook page. The one-minute video captured troops from the unit storming a Russian defensive position using their service weapons.

However, the combat footage was unlike many other videos that have come before because it detailed the close cooperation between Ukrainian drone operators and the troops they were working with on the ground.
“The plan called for close cooperation between the pilots of the Black Swan strike group and the infantry assault group,” the Ukrainian military website Militarnyi noted about the operation. This cooperation is evident in the combat footage.

The video begins by showing a single Russian soldier making his way to what was likely a trench dugout meant to protect him from drone attacks and other battlefield weapons like artillery and grenade launchers.

“The Black Swan strike group kept these positions under constant fire control, providing the infantry with a safe approach to the enemy trenches,” the battalion wrote about the encounter according to a translation from Militarnyi.

A Ukrainian drone operator dropped one explosive just as the Russian soldier made it to his dugout. The video then cuts to two Ukrainian soldiers methodically making their way to the dugout with their weapons drawn.

The lead soldier fired his weapon into the dugout once he reached it. What happened to the Russian soldier hiding in the dugout is unknown but it was hinted at by the battalion that none of the enemies engaged in the encounter survived.

The Ukrainian soldiers backed away from the position and the drone operator continued dropping precision weapons on the dugout, which forced the Russians in the position to remain hidden and not offer significant resistance.

“Having achieved the goal, our infantrymen took the enemy’s position. Thanks to the constant communication between pilots and infantrymen, the enemy was unable to come out of the shelters and stay there forever,” the battalion wrote.

The trench storming operation was only made possible by the lack of electronic warfare systems on the Russian side. The 225th Assault Battalion’s report noted that Russian forces in the area did not have adequate electronic warfare protection.
The 225th Assault Battalion did not divulge when the footage was captured or where the battlefield encounter took place. However, due to the nature of the operation, it likely did occur somewhere along the extensive frontline of the war.
