Ten underrated Biden Administration policies
As the 2024 elections end, the Biden Administration will do the same, and many will be happy to leave it behind. Still, some of President Biden's policies will have a lasting effect.
Joe Biden was very unpopular. According to FiveThirtyEight, more than half of voters disapproved of him. During his term, Americans were angry about the economy or the border.
His reelection bid did not help. Most voters felt he was too old to run and were not happy after his debate performance. His most praised decision was stepping aside.
Still, bipartisan experts and analysts told The Washington Post, Politico, and Business Insider that some of Biden's policies will quietly benefit citizens for years.
One of those is his crackdown on bank junk and overdraft fees. A Federal Trade Commission rule mandates companies to disclose required additional fees upfront to consumers.
He also passed an act that brought microchip production back to the US, adding thousands of manufacturing jobs and securing vital sectors, like the automotive industry.
Biden promised to be a pro-union President. He delivered. His appointees to the National Labor Relations Board set legal precedents that will make union busting much pricier from now on.
He also made critical investments in infrastructure. His bipartisan trillion-dollar law allowed for essential services, like clean water or Wi-Fi access in rural areas, Business Insider reported.
The bill also included wide funding for essential infrastructure: roads, bridges, airports, and railroads. The investment was long overdue, and, as Politico said, no other President had managed to pass it through Congress.
The Department of Transportation also introduced proposals to protect air travel consumers, especially by forcing airlines to guarantee a reimbursement when a flight is canceled.
The Biden administration pushed oil production in the US to a historic high, even compared to a more pro-oil Trump administration. This allowed the country to export and forced a worldwide reduction in oil prices.
The Inflation Reduction Act allocated one of US history's most significant investments in green energy. It boosted manufacturing jobs and helped the industry advance much quicker.
Still, those were not the only manufacturing jobs created by the IRA. The administration gave tax credits to companies that relocated their production back to the US.
Under the Biden administration, the FDA also approved the first over-the-counter contraceptive pill. It became a priority after Roe v. Wade was overturned and reproductive health was under threat in many states.
One of the last policies of the Biden administration was to expand overtime payment for close to a million workers earning up to $55,000, including a mechanism to automatically adjust that level every three years.
In addition to policies, Biden also holds two achievements: his administration was the most diverse in the country's history, and he was also the President who signed the largest number of bipartisan bills.
