A tariff war has begun between Canada and the United States and it is not going to be pretty. Sadly, many Canadians will find that their soaring grocery bills are about to grow even more and it is going to be painful for many households.

25% tariffs on US goods

On February 2, just shy of 24 hours after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed certain American product categories impacted by the 25% retaliatory tariffs in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canadian goods, the Canadian government published the complete list of affected products.

$30 billion in goods affected

The Canadian tariffs on products from the United States are expected to impact a substantial $30 billion in goods. Nevertheless, the Canadian government has introduced a mechanism for "requesting remission of tariffs" to address specific circumstances, such as when it is impossible to obtain comparable items from outside the U.S. or in other unique situations.
