Do you have Long Covid?
The corona virus is no longer an issue for many, you hear less and less about it in the media and people don’t want to even think about masks anymore. It almost seems as if we didn't live through two years of the global pandemic.
However, unfortunately, we cannot totally forget about the virus. Especially because many people who were ill with Covid-19 are now experiencing the late effects of the virus.
Late effects are the symptoms that still persist 4 weeks after a corona infection.
This phenomenon is called Long Covid. These are long-term complaints that occur in about 10 to 30 percent of all patients who were infected with Covid-19.
Studies agree that women and younger people are the most affected by Long Covid.
However, in children and in general in vaccinated people, the late effects occur less frequently.
There are more and more studies being published in scientific media like 'Nature Medicine' looking at the most common symptoms of Long Covid.
The publication 'Nature Medicine' describes and details over 200 symptoms, but in today's gallery we'll cover the most common.
The biggest problem with recognizing the symptoms of Long Covid is that they are the same as flu and cold virus infections.
For this reason, an American study recently analyzed the symptoms that last longer than 4 weeks after having Covid-19 and do not occur with a flu or a cold.
According to the magazine Fitbook, data from over 17,000 American corona patients who were infected with corona before April 2022 was used for this study.
Joint pain is one of the most common symptoms, many patients complain about during and for weeks after having Covid-19, particularly about how much their legs and arms hurt.
One symptom that is often not immediately recognized is weight gain, but again it is clear how different the symptoms can be for each patient. Some suffer from weight loss, while others gain weight.
This symptom is one of the better known and is sometimes first associated with another respiratory illness, but if it persists long term it can be a sign of Long Covid.
Just like the previous symptom, breathing difficulties are a well-known problem and also the subject of many studies that deal with the effects of Covid-19 on the respiratory tract.
According to the studies on Long Covid, this symptom is also a very frequent problem and is examined by many studies, but unfortunately in most cases there are no clear reasons why the patients have these symptoms.
Hair loss, on the other hand, is a lesser-known but clear symptom since it doesn't occur with the flu or a cold.
The final symptom on our list of the most common symptoms is another classic that unfortunately sometimes gets lost because it's not directly associated with Long Covid: exhaustion. Other common symptoms also mentioned in the studies are: smell and taste problems, a dry cough, mood changes, depressed mood and dizziness.
