Rudy Giuliani 'on track' to be indicted for Trump-related criminal charges

NBC News reported that Rudy Giuliani was now the target of a current criminal investigation involving election fraud in Georgia during the 2020 presidential elections.

MSNBC highlights that the Fulton County District Attorney's Office claims that they are 'on track' to indict the former New York mayor and current Donald Trump advisor.

On July 5th, 2022, Rudy Giuliani, along with six other allies and advisors of former President Donald Trump, were subpoenaed under accusations of election interference in Georgia. The New York Times writes that charges include racketeering and conspiracy.

MSNBC's Chief Legal Correspondent, Ari Melber, claims that Giuliani “should have known better” and that, unlike his previous controversies, the former New York mayor is at risk of facing prison time.

Being a target of an investigation, The New York Times writes, doesn't necessarily mean that an indictment is unavoidable. Just that the prosecution believes that they have enough evidence to press criminal charges.

However, this adds more pressure on former President Donald Trump and his inner circle, of which Giuliani is a prominent member.

Particularly since this comes after the FBI searched his home in Mar-a-Lago for documents that allegedly the former President had kept illegally.

Giuliani told news website Newsmax that Trump's first reaction was bragging about the size of the crowd supporting him outside his Florida estate.

What is true is that Rudy Giuliani has been in the spotlight for most of 2022 and not for good reasons.

From the January 6 hearings connecting him to an attempt to block a peaceful transition of power to being subpoenaed for election meddling in Georgia, it’s been a long, slow decline for the former mayor of New York City.

This comes after witnesses claimed to the congressional panel investigating the January 6 capitol attack that an ‘inebriated’ Rudy Giuliani was the mastermind of Trump’s rejection of the 2020 Presidential Election results.

The former mayor of New York, meanwhile, claimed he was assaulted while campaigning for his son’s bid to be the Republican candidate for the New York governor race.

The Guardian reports that the incident was merely a slap in the back. “Someone needs to remind former mayor Giuliani that falsely reporting a crime is a crime”, declared current New York mayor Eric Adams to the press after reviewing footage of the supposed attack.

For some time, Rudy Giuliani’s public image has been badly hurt for his close alliance with Donald Trump. In April 2022, the former New York mayor appeared on the TV show ‘The Masked Singer’.

However, a lot of this has been Giuliani’s own erratic behavior in the past years. From holding a press conference at the Four Seasons Total Landscaping, between a crematorium and a store of erotic toys.

Giuliani, acting as an advisor of President Donald Trump, was revealed by CNN and others to have pressured the government of Ukraine to reveal information on Hunter Biden to improve Trump's reelection chances.

This has shattered the image and goodwill Giuliani gathered as mayor of New York City during 9/11, the most critical hours ever lived in the largest and most important city of the United States.

However, the New York politician has had something of a spotty record in his early career.

Giuliani was a key speaker in a 1992 rally to protest the initiative of Mayor David Dinkins (pictured on the left) to create a civilian agency to oversee police misconduct.

The rally quickly turned into a riot where over 4,000 off-duty police officers took part in violent behavior, including rushing into the City Hall.

Ultimately, his pro-police, tough-on-crime stance led to an easy victory for Giuliani as mayor of New York in 1993.

During his time as the New York District Attorney, Giuliani popularized the ‘perp walk’. That is, arranging having suspects detained and paraded in front of the media.

He was criticized for using the perp walk on high-profile cases regardless if they had enough evidence to go to trial.

During his time as the third most important man in the Justice Department, Giuliani defended on trial the detention by the Reagan Administration of over 2,000 Haitians that had entered illegally in the United States. Giuliani claimed that no political repression existed under the dictatorship of Papa Doc.

According to a profile made by The Nation, the Republican politician actually started his political career as a Democrat and campaigned for Robert Kennedy in 1968.

One month after the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980, Giuliani registered as a Republican. He has been quoted saying he did so because he considered their policies “naive”, although other sources implied he did so to advance his career.

However, The Nation writes that Rudy Giuliani's mom claimed he did it to further his career. We can't say it's been bad for him, so far!
