The top ten dying businesses in America
According to Our World In Data, technological change is faster than ever. This speed, along with globalization, has killed many industries.
Despite having one of the most solid economies in the world, many industries are dying in America, especially in manufacturing and information, two of the fastest-changing sectors.
To create a list of the fastest-declining industries in the country, the US Career Institute examined data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on labor projections and chose those with the most significant employment decrease.
The smoke manufacturing industry tops the list. In 2021, the sector employed 10.7 thousand people; it is expected to lose more than half its workforce by 2031.
CD manufacturing is second place, as technology advancements have rendered the disc useless. It will lose around half its workforce, from 11.3 thousand in 2021 to 5.5 thousand in 2031.
Leather products manufacturing is third place, with a 35% decline in the workforce. 2021 the sector employed 117 thousand people; by 2023, it will be 75.2.

Sixth on the list is newspaper publishing. According to Fortune, America has lost one-third of its newspapers since 2005. The sector employed 247.4 thousand people in 2021, but it will lose 24% of its workers by 2031.
Next are telecommunications resellers, satellites, and other related sectors. The number of jobs will decline 21.6% by the decade's end, from 89.5 thousand to 70.2 thousand.
Cable TV comes next as streaming services start to dominate home entertainment. The sector will go from 45.8 thousand jobs in 2021 to 36.1 thousand by the end of the century. 21.2% less.

Finally, manufacturing of engines, turbines, and similar products occupies the last position in the top ten, with a 17% decrease in employment in the decade between 2021 and 2031.
The US Career Institute list also includes the fastest-growing industries in the US. After the pandemic, the leisure, hospitality, and healthcare sectors topped the list.
The first three places are for leisure and hospitality industries: event promoters and agents are number one, amusement parks and arcades are second, and performing arts companies are third.
Individual and family services are in fourth place in the healthcare sector list. Still, they employ more people than the first three sectors combined.
