Trump made more controversial remarks about Kamala Harris' race

Donald Trump made some incendiary remarks questioning Kamala Harris’s racial identity during a speech at the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago.

According to the former US President and the current Republican candidate, Kamala Harris only “became black” a few years ago.

“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”, Trump declared, as quoted by AP News.

“I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t, because she was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden she made a turn and she went – she became a Black person”, The Republican candidate remarked in front of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Traditionally, the National Associated of Black Journalists invites presidential candidates to give a speech at their convention during the summer, but Trump’s invitation, has been nothing sort of divisive for the organization.

Meanwhile, AP News explains that Kamala Harris is the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, both immigrants in the United States.

While serving as a US Senator, Harris was part of the Congressional Black Caucus. The VP also attended Howard University, one of the most well-known historically black universities in the country.

“Who appointed Donald Trump the arbiter of Blackness?” asked Representative Ritchie Torres of New York, according to the BBC.

CNN highlights that Trump’s obsession with race is nothing new. For years, the New York mogul questioned Obama’s origins, claiming that the former US President was actually born in Kenya.

According to AP News, Trump also claimed that he had been the best US President for the black population since Abram Lincoln, who liberated the slaves.

“I love the Black population of this country. I’ve done so much for the Black population of this country”, the New York mogul remarked, per AP News.
