Donald Trump won by a landslide in the first caucus in the Republican race for a presidential nominee, with more than 50% of the vote, according to NBC News.
His rivals were way behind him
Florida governor Ron DeSantis (pictured) finished just ahead of his rival Nikki Haley, but both were well behind Trump (DeSantis at 21% and Haley at 19%), the NBC projections showed.
Vivek Ramaswamy dropped out of the race
His third rival, Vivek Ramaswamy, announced he was dropping out and said he will endorse Trump in New Hampshire on Tuesday, the BBC reported.

Moreover, public opinion surveys show that most Ramaswamy supporters have Trump as their second choice.
Trump won in all but one of Iowa’s counties
Although polls had predicted Trump’s victory for months, this win was “historically massive”, according to the BBC. He won the most votes in all counties except for one out of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Moreover, he won among both the young and old, men and women. He also won over the evangelical and hard-right conservative voters he had difficulty winning in 2016, the BBC reported.

About half of Republican caucus-goers consider themselves part of Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement, according to the CBS News survey.
A majority of Iowa voters believe Trump won in 2020
Furthermore, a large majority of caucus-goers in Iowa told CBS they believe Trump was the actual winner of the 2020 presidential election, a number that increased to 90% among Trump supporters.

The unwavering support for Trump shown in this victory looks all the more extraordinary when you consider the two criminal trials he’s facing stemming from the Jan 6 Capitol riots, not to mention the other multiple criminal charges looming over his head.

But now, as the winner of the Iowa caucuses and with no clear rival emerging from them, he has taken the first significant step towards becoming the Republican Party's nominee in November’s presidential election.
